KOLKATA, 27 JUNE: The state tourism department will organise a conducted tour for the industrialists to showcase the prospective locations for the upcoming projects.
The department officials today held a meeting with 30 industrialists, who have already invested either in Bengal or elsewhere in the country, at the Writers’ Buildings.
The department is planning to come up with a host of projects across the state and the meeting was aimed at informing industrialists about the projects so as to encourage them to invest in them.
Some of the projects include setting up of eco-tourism parks at Kunjanagar and Saylee in Jalpaiguri and at Jharkhali and Sabujdip in the Sunderbans.
Plans are also afoot to come up with four tourism-cum-mega resorts at Ghum in Darjeeling, Gangarampur in North Dinajpur, Salt Lake and Digha.
This apart, 10 training institutes for hotel management and catering will be set up in Bankura, Kolkata, Hooghly, East Midnapore, Jalpaiguri, South 24-Parganas and Howrah.
To give a better idea about the proposed projects and their locations, the department has decided to take the industrialists on a conducted tour to the respective areas.
After this the department will seek proposals from the industrialists for investing in the state.
The department has already approached the state public works , irrigation and waterways department and power to set up basic infrastructure, including construction of roads, drainage system and arranging electricity and water supply.
