Balurghat, 8 July: Tension gripped Thanapara village in the Tapan police station area of South Dinajpur district, as Krishna Mondal (29), a newly-married housewife, committed suicide by hanging herself at her in-laws’ house.
On the basis of the official complaint lodged against her husband and in-laws at Tapan police station by Krishna’s father Mr Sunil Malakar, alleging that they had abetted the suicide, police arrested her husband, Ganesh Mondal (38).
Others, whose names have figured in the FIR, are reportedly absconding.
The father of the deceased mentioned in his FIR that his daughter was being tortured by her husband and in-laws on dowry issues since their marriage.
Villagers resisted police when they went to the deceased&’s residence to remove the body.
Police must arrest the rest of the involved in the heinous crime, they
demanded.
“Domestic troubles became a norm in her life and maybe, she committed suicide because of it,” said a villager.
Police removed the body despite resistance from the villagers and sent it for post-mortem at Balurghat district hospital.
“We are probing the case from all angles,” said an investigation officer of Tapan police station.
“We have already arrested one of the accused while the others involved in the matter will be arrested soon,” he added.     sns
