KOLKATA, 9 JUNE: Mediapersons organised a rally in North 24-Parganas today condemning the attack on their colleague when they went to cover a clash between two factions of the Trinamul Congress.
The rally started from Chiriamore in Barrackpore and more than 50 journalists took part in the rally. They demanded justice for the reporters who were beaten up and fighting for their lives in nursing home.
Meanwhile, the condition of journalist Astik Chattopadhyay is stated to be stable while Barun Sengupta is still critical. Doctors are keeping Barun under observation.
Police today raided the residence of Mr Shibu Yadav, leader of one of the factions of the Trinamul Congress that was involved in the assault, but failed to get any clue about Mr Yadav’s whereabouts from his family members. Mr Rabin Bhattacharya, leader of the rival Trinamul Congress group is also at large. Fourteen youths were arrested in this connection till yesterday. But, according to some local people the police are delaying in arresting Mr Yadav and Mr Bhattacharya as they haven’t got the nod from senior Trinamul leaders yet. sns
