SILIGURI, 18 JUNE: The Congress activists staged an agitation at Bagdogra airport today, demanding reinstatement of 17 employees of the Kingfisher Airlines in other airlines. Kingfisher became defunct last year.
The Bagdogra Workmen Union (BWU), affiliated to the INTUC, threatened to launch a greater movement if alternative arrangements are made for these 17 employees. The president of the affiliate, Mr Amitava Sarkar, said they would fight for the cause of these persons.  “There were 25 employees working in the Kingfisher Airlines. They used to handle the luggage. Eight of them have found jobs in other airlines, but 17 persons have remained jobless. We want them to be recruited by other airlines," said Mr Sarkar. The union also staged an agitation at the counter of the Go Air Airlines. “We came to know that the Go Air officials have recruited two outsiders after taking money from them. Such practice should be stopped immediately. We want the authorities to introduce lottery system for recruitment," he added.
