Two 21-year-old women were gangraped by five youths at Paschimpara village here Thursday night.

The women were recovered in a semi conscious state early this morning by a villager. They have been admitted to Basirhat hospital.

The police detained the brother of one of the accused. There has been tension in the area and a large contingent of policemen was deployed to maintain peace.

According to the police, one of the victims had developed friendship with an accused over the phone. Yesterday evening he asked her to see him and gave the address of a house.

The girl took one of her friends along. When the girl and her friend arrived at the spot they found five youths waiting for them. The youths took them to a room and locked it from outside. Then throughout the night they allegedly gangraped them. In the morning they left the place leaving them on the street in a semi conscious state. A villager saw them and took them to his house where on regaining consciousness they narrated the story to him. They were taken to the hospital with the help of other villagers. Senior police officers said that a probe had begun and hunt was on for the accused.
