The UAE advised citizens to postpone travel to Jammu and Kashmir in India and called upon those who are there to follow instructions of local authorities, according to reports on Thursday.

In a tweet, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation asked the citizens to postpone their travel to Jammu and Kashmir in India in view of the current situation and asked those who were already there to get in touch with the local embassy authorities for further advice and assistance.

Kashmir had been hit by complete security lockdown and hundreds of migrant workers have begun fleeing the Himalayan region.

However, Germany, Australia and the UK have already advised their citizens against travelling to Jammu and Kashmir as tensions soared after India’s decision on its status.

The move comes after the Indian government on Monday scrapped Article 370 of the Constitution that gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir and converted the state into a Union Territory with a legislature.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah proposed in the Rajya Sabha to revoke Article 370 of the Constitution in Jammu and Kashmir amid uproar by opposition members.

President Ram Nath Kovind signed the notification to abrogate the Article.

The Pakistan Foreign Office in a statement said that it “strongly condemns and rejects” the announcement by India to repeal Article 370, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
