Months after shedding nearly 240 kg through weight-loss surgery at a Mumbai hospital, once world’s heaviest woman, Eman Abdul Atti, 37, has died at an Abu Dhabi hospital, media reports said.

An Egyptian national, Eman came to Mumbai for a weight-loss surgery in February and made headlines worldover.

As per reports, Abu Dhabi’s Burjeel Hospital mentioned ‘Complications, from the underlying co-morbid conditions including heart diseases and kidney dysfunction’ as Eman’s cause of death.

Eman’s body mass index (BMI) — a measure of body fat based on height and weight, which for a normal person is about 24 —was almost ten times higher at 252.

Eman Abdul weighed around 500 kilograms when she arrived in Mumbai in February from her hometown Alexandria in Egypt. She was treated at the Mumbai’s famed Saifee hospital and reportedly lost 240 kg during her weight-loss treatment.

Eman had reportedly not stepped out of her house for more than two decades due to her weight and a stroke that left her paralysed a year ago.
