The visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to New Delhi marks a cautious attempt at resetting one of Asia’s most complex bilateral relationships.
The Prime Minister also confirmed his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit later this month.
During the meeting, both Doval and Wang emphasised the need to increase mutual trust, stressing the need to maintain peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
NSA Doval and Wang, who is on a two-day India visit, discussed the sensutive border issues between the two countries.
Later, China’s foreign minister Wang Yi slammed the US for “reckless provocation of confrontation” after both sides ordered tit-for-tat closures of each other’s consulates, but called for “rational communication” between the two powers.
'The focus of the conversation between NSA Ajit Doval and Chinese FM Wang Yi was the full and enduring restoration of peace and tranquillity.'
No epidemic is invincible, and this one is no exception. With the great efforts of the Chinese people, the prevention and control of epidemic is heading in a positive direction, Yi said.
The talks would be held between Special Representatives (SR) of the two countries. While National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval is the SR on the Indian side, Foreign Minister Wang Yi is China’s SR for the talks.
Jaishankar earlier on Monday said that India and China 'should not allow differences to hamper their bilateral relationship'.
