This will be Modi’s first visit after the 2019 and 2020 India-China border standoff. Modi’s previous visit to China was in 2019.

The visit also comes amid the imposition of severe tariffs from US President Donald Trump and the mounting pressure on India against oil purchase from Russia.

Both countries are seeking to mend their bilateral ties that deteriorated following the 2020 border standoff after a deadly clash between their troops in the Ladakh region.

Earlier today, Wang met NSA Ajit Doval at Hyderabad House in New Delhi for the 24th round of Special Representative-level talks on resolving the border disputes between the two countries.

During the meeting, both Doval and Wang emphasised the need to increase mutual trust, stressing the need to maintain peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
