The plane carrying Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, has landed at Stewart Air National Guard Base in New York on Saturday (local time) following their capture in a large-scale US military strike in Caracas, Venezuela.
The news came three days after President Nicolas Maduro hinted that his rival was "in hiding" at a diplomatic location.
Maduro suggested that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres name a "commission" of electoral observers, "so they can be witnesses on the day the Venezuelan people recover their National Assembly".
He further wrote that it was a "serious violation of human rights and freedom of travel of US citizens and hinders family reunification".
Upon his release in 2018, he left for Peru, and the opposition alleged that he had been exiled from the country.
Maduro, who is not recognized as a legitimate President by 60 countries, including the US, thanked Putin for his support.
The second-most powerful man in Venezuela said during his programme that North Korea had invited Maduro to visit.
The US President Donald Trump issued an executive order that freezes all Venezuelan state assets in the United States on August 5.
Venezuelan Vice Foreign Minister William Castillo said, "The sanctions met the body's definition of "unilateral coercive measures" and should be lifted, While addressing a session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
UN Human Rights chief Michelle Bachelet visited Venezuela last month and will present the report to the UN Human Rights Council on Friday.
