The accident occurred when the Korba Passenger Train rammed into a stationary goods train near Lal Khadan station on the busy Bilaspur-Katni rail line.
According to official reports, the incident occurred around 3:25 a.m. on 10 October when an empty NMG freight train was passing through Bhangala station.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday questioned the government’s priorities while expressing deep concern over the train accident in Mumbai that claimed several lives.
The train departed from the station at around 04.45 am. The stranded passengers were provided with food and water during the wait, officials said.
The accident in Balasore district, involving two passenger trains and one goods train, claimed 275 lives and left over 1,000 injured.
Railway minister said work on the reconstruction of the damaged tracks started soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent out instructions to that effect.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee said this afternoon that 62 people from Bengal died in the tragic train accident in Odisha, as per the latest count.
