On the occasion of World Tourism Day today, the Ministry of Tourism launched the Incredible India Content Hub on the revamped Incredible India digital portal (www.incredibleindia.gov.in).
There is a need to expedite the "cumbersome" process of getting a US visa that Indian nationals face, to promote tourism between the two countries which enjoy a strong bilateral partnership, a top Tourism Ministry official said on Friday.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that FTAs during the period January- May, 2024 were 40.72 lakh as compared to 37.32 lakh in January-May 2023, registering a growth of 9.1 per cent with respect to 2023.
The first phase of the survey began on 1 June and will continue until June 30. The second phase will run from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025.
The workshop was based on the Development of Sustainable and Responsible Tourist Destinations at Khajuraho on 29 November that witnessed wide participation of senior Government officials and Tourism industry stakeholders of various States/ Union Territories.
“This updated version of the scheme will focus, especially on enhancing the contribution of tourism to the local economies and creating jobs including self-employment for local communities,” Minister for Tourism G Kishan Reddy said in the Lok Sabha.
Earlier in 2014, India and Australia had signed an MoU on tourism cooperation in the field of tourism which expired in the year 2019, the Ministry said.
India, Britain and China are the leading markets for Sri Lanka's tourism.
The programme was expected to be implemented from May 1 for tourists from over 30 countries
