On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings and paid tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, whose birth anniversary is celebrated as Teachers’ Day across India.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday appealed to all teachers across the country to keep educating their students about the Constitution of India and its values as he greeted them on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.
The Governor paid rich tributes to late Dr S Radhakrishnan, former President of India and termed him as a veracious personality, Nobel laureate, academician and an able administrator.
"I pay my respects to Dr. S. Radhakrishnan on his Jayanti and recall his distinguished scholarship as well as contributions to our nation," the Prime Minister tweeted.
He said: “Teachers’ Day is an occasion when we honour the dedicated services of all the teachers who play a leading role in the intellectual and moral development of our children. In Indian tradition, teachers are placed at the same pedestal as God.”
He observed that about 40 percent of the winners of the National Awards were women and appreciated the role women have played as educators.
The event was organized by Prof MR Maurya, Dean of Faculty Affairs and witnessed the participation from awardees’ families, Director, Deputy Director, Deans and Assoc. Deans, Heads of Departments/Centres, Registrar, Librarian, Gen Secretaries for Graduate and Post Graduate courses, IIT Roorkee.
