Senior BJP leader Tathagata Roy on Thursday cautioned party workers against overenthusiasm over exit poll projections for the West Bengal Assembly Election, reminding them of the unexpected outcome of the 2021 polls.
“People discuss the deviation of the party outside because they are not getting opportunities or are allowed to highlight these matters within the party,” he said. Mr Roy however severely criticised Joyprakash Majumder after he joined Trinamul Congress on Tuesday.
"I am getting several calls. I have told everybody that I am not leaving the party on my own wish. I am a common member of the party and I shall play the role of 'bibek' (conscience) in the party. Had I decided to leave the party, I would have leaked many secret things but it is not happening now,"
Tathagata Roy has filed a police complaint against Saayoni Ghosh for a meme shared on Twitter, alleging that it hurt the sentiments of Hindus.
While it is open to question whether Mr Roy is that leader, considering his less than spectacular record in fighting elections in the state, his erudition, scholastic record and professional background as an engineer of some repute, will definitely make him a contender.
Roy took to Twitter and said, "A democracy is necessarily divisive. If you do not want it go to North Korea.” His tweet came hours before protesters reached the entrance of the Raj Bhavan, tried to breach security following which they were lathi-charged and police used tear-gas and seriously injured several protesters.
He soon though expressed regret over his remarks.
