According to the notification issued by the Commission, elections will be conducted for 49 urban local bodies, including six Municipal Corporations, 19 Municipal Councils and 24 Nagar Panchayats.
The State Election Commission on Wednesday revoked the decision to delete her vote, which had been removed due to alleged irregularities in her house number.
The direction came during the hearing of a contempt petition filed over the government’s failure to conduct municipal elections in the state.
The Congress government in Telangana is considering approaching the Supreme Court to ensure 42 per cent reservation for the Backward Classes (BC) in the local polls after the High Court directed that the State Election Commission could proceed with the elections, but under the earlier reservation rules.
“SEC @MamataOfficial was categorically indicated that its authority of exercising “superintendence, direction and control of the preparation of electoral rolls for, and the conduct of all elections to the Municipalities” is in no manner qualified or diluted by any state law,”
"In other states also, civic polls are conducted with the help of state forces. So, there is no need for Central forces in this election. We have asked the DG to submit a detailed plan of security arrangements within seven days," a senior official of the State Election Commission said.
The incident happened in booths number 144 and 145 of the Bsaini village in Aurangabad district.
It may be recalled here that the municipal corporation and NAC polls in the State have been delayed by over two years as the government is yet to amend the existing laws to determine the reservation and delimitation of seats.
A total of 37 seats out of which 17 are in Kashmir and 20 in Jammu region are up for polls as voting will begin at 7 a.m to 2 p.m. on Thursday.
