Investigators are tracing funding routes, recruitment channels and overseas handlers after Delhi Police dismantled an alleged terror network and seized explosives.
Police sources claimed it was a ‘fidayeen attack’ and was planned by those associated with the Jaish-e-Mohammed. They said the car was driven by Dr Umar Mohammad, who planned the attack along with two of his associates.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have traced the registration of the exploded car to Faridabad in Haryana, intensifying the manhunt. The blast has so far claimed ten lives and left 24 others injured.
The explosion, which occurred on Monday evening, also injured 24 people. Police, who are probing a possible terror angle, have identified the vehicle involved as a Hyundai i20 bearing a Haryana registration number.
Government sources confirmed that the Prime Minister spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and took an update on the situation, which is being closely monitored at the highest level.
Police said that the accused have revealed that they had sourced all the recovered firearms and ammunitions from Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Pramod Singh Kushwaha said in view of the forthcoming MCD elections in Delhi, increased surveillance by the teams of Special Cell was mounted on the firearms suppliers.
Seizure of a huge consignment of illegal firearms during the festive season has been considered as a major crack down on the criminal activities.
The Special Cell has so far identified six of the eight shooters, and among those the police can confirm the role of 4 shooters.
Currently, the local police assisted by a team of Special Cell and Crime Branch is investigating the case, which is likely to be transferred to Special Cell.
