‘Will fight all future elections on our own’: Mayawati confirms end of SP-BSP alliance
In a series of tweets in Hindi, Mayawati said her party was compelled to take the decision following SP's attitude after Lok Sabha polls.
In a series of tweets in Hindi, Mayawati said her party was compelled to take the decision following SP's attitude after Lok Sabha polls.
Earlier this month, Mayawati had said that her party will contest the bypolls on all 11 Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh alone.
Addressing reporters a day after Mayawati formally announced the end of the alliance, Yadav said that his respect for the BSP supremo remains unshaken.
The BSP supremo said if SP chief Akhilesh Yadav succeeds in his political work, the BSP will once again join hands with the party.
Earlier, there were reports that Mayawati might meet UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi in the national capital on Monday ahead of the poll results on May 23.
Mayawati on Wednesday said she will not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019 effectively backing out of the race for the Prime Minister’s post.
The 63-year-old former four-time Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh said that she took the decision in the light of the "current political situation".
“We are leaving 7 seats vacant for SP, BSP and RLD. These include Mainpuri, Kannauj, Firozabad and whatever seats Mayawati ji and RLD's Jayant ji and Ajit Singh contest from. We will also give two seats to Apna Dal - Gonda and Pilibhit, said Babbar while briefing the media.
The two parties had in January this year announced their decision to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections together from Uttar Pradesh.
Mayawati said that the BJP's rapid moves in forging alliances with other parties in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 is proof of that.
