During his meeting with the Russian President at the Kremlin on Thursday, Dr Jaishankar conveyed personal greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday.
Jaishankar's visit comes amid escalating trade tensions between India and the United States over India's oil purchases from Russia.
The party general secretary in-charge of Communications Jairam Ramesh said, “Tomorrow the BRICS+ Summit begins in Kazan, Russia. Like most things the non-biological PM claims credit for, there is a solid pre-2014 history to such a Summit.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday conferred Russia’s highest civilian honour, Order of St Andrew the Apostle, on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a two-day official visit to Moscow for the 22nd Annual Summit.
At a media briefing here on Friday, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said the PM will leave here on 8 July on a three-day visit to Russia and Austria. In Moscow, he will hold the 22nd Annual India-Russia Summit with President Putin.
The two leaders will have a one-on-one interaction soon after Modi arrives in Sochi on the morning of 21 May
