The official announcement came at the Ajit Pawar-le NCP's national convention 2026 organised in Worli here on Thursday.
The immediate trigger was a statement made on Thursday by Ajit Pawar-led NCP's spokesperson Anand Paranjape who said, “We have lost our god (Ajit Pawar), but unfortunately the Sharad Pawar-led NCP is politicising this incident”.
Accordingly, Sunetra Pawar will take official charge at the NCP executive meeting which has been convened on February 26, sources said.
However, earlier on Thursday, Sharad Pawar-led NCP MLA Rohit Pawar said, “We will hold a press conference regarding the merger of both the NCPs soon.
Hindurao's statement was also confirmed by Sharad Pawar-led NCP MLA Rohit Pawar who shared more details about it later, by making allegations about Delhi-based aircraft charter company VSR and a political consultant Naresh Arora known to be close to Praful Patel, who allegedly arranged for the ill-fated aircraft.
It was Sunetra Pawar's first visit to Delhi after she was sworn in as the first woman deputy chief minister of the state following the demise of her husband and former deputy CM Ajit Pawar in a plane crash on January 28 in Baramati.
Sunetra Pawar was born in 1963 to Bajirao Patil, who was a political leader from Maharashtra's Darashiv.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) working president and Rajya Sabha MP Praful Patel, on Thursday, announced that after the success in the recent Maharashtra assembly elections, the party would contest the Delhi assembly elections too
Patel's comments came ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Council of Ministers.
The Rajya Sabha elections for six seats in Maharashtra could go uncontested as the BJP has nominated only three candidates for the polls — Chavan, Medha Kulkarni, and Dr Ajeet Gopchade.
