India’s merchandise exports grew by around 15 per cent during the April-June 14 period this year despite global economic challenges, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said on Sunday.
Goyal said that the agreement was finalised and announced before the US Supreme Court's order striking down President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariffs.
Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal said the USTR delegation will be holding talks with Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and senior Indian officials.
“Talks are going on very well. There are many sensitive issues, many serious issues, so naturally, it takes some time,” the minister added.
The meeting focused on reviewing progress on the India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and strengthening bilateral trade and investment relations.
Taking it to social media platform X, Piyush Goyal said, "Chaired a meeting with representatives from Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) & Industry Associations from diverse sectors, focused on exploring strategies to propel India's export growth.”
India and the European Union reaffirmed their shared commitment to conclude the India-EU FTA by the end of 2025.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will visit Brussels, Belgium, on 27–28 October.
