In a shocking display of political muscle, a corporator from Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena allegedly assaulted doctors and nurses at Mumbai’s Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation’s Shastrinagar Hospital, prompting hospital staff to suspend work in protest.
The alleged assault took place on Tuesday, when Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre and his supporters slapped a lady doctor and brutally beat nurses following a dispute over the referral of a pregnant woman.

According to reports, doctors referred a pregnant woman to another hospital as all Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds were occupied.
The doctors reportedly informed the pregnant woman that the newborn may require treatment in the NICU and since no beds were available, she should be shifted to another hospital.
This led to an argument and shortly afterwards Mhatre and his supporters arrived at the hospital and started threatening and assaulting the doctors and hospital staff.
Following the incident, the doctors, nurses and hospital staff went on strike, suspending work at the hospital.
They demanded immediate action against the ruling Shiv Sena corporator and adequate security arrangements at the hospital.
