The announcement follows a recent meeting between Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, during which several major infrastructure proposals for Delhi-NCR were reviewed.
The Chief Minister further said that the Bhawanigarh-Kot Shamir road, Malerkotla-Barnala road and the Barnala-Bajakhana road corridor would be upgraded into four-lane highways to improve connectivity and facilitate smoother transportation across the region.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday unveiled a major infrastructure push in Jharkhand, announcing that the Centre would implement National Highway projects worth ₹2 lakh crore in the state over the coming years.
The minister will first travel to Hur village in Garhwa district to inaugurate the Rehla four-lane road project at 12 noon. Following the event, he will return to Ranchi by helicopter at 2:15 PM.
