Financial and banking stocks led losses as rising crude prices and weak global cues dragged markets lower, wiping out recent gains and keeping investor sentiment cautious.
At close, the Sensex was up 316.57 points or 0.38% at 82,814.71, and the Nifty was up 116.90 points or 0.46% at 25,571.25.

On Nifty, Hindalco, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Steel, HUL, and M&M were the top gainers, rising 1.5-4 per cent while BPCL, TCS, Infosys, Trent, and Dr Reddy's Labs were the biggest losers falling 2.5-3 per cent.
