The eastern zone bench of National Green Tribunal has directed the Odisha Government agencies in Nayagarh district to reclaim the encroached patches reserve forestland and slap environmental compensation against the violators for damage caused to forest classified land.

The tribunal has also said that nationwide, the ban will also be applicable to cities and towns where the average ambient air quality in November last year was poor or worse.
The direction of the principal bench of NGT stating work has been completed in two and a half years emanated from a petition that Santragachi jheel stated to be a bird sanctuary was being polluted due to dumping of municipal and plastic waste and building waste material. It was also alleged that construction was on the northern side of the water body.
The decision follows the central government's 'Unlock 1' guidelines on Saturday.
As a precautionary measure, the NGT has directed all staff members, litigants, lawyers or members of the public from entering the NGT premises, which will remain sealed for deep sanitisation from May 23.
