Teams of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), fire department and Mumbai Police were engaged in rescuing passengers from the monorail that was stuck near Mysore Colony station in Mumbai.
The IMD issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and Ratnagiri after heavy rains triggered severe waterlogging and a fatal landslide in Vikhroli. Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh’s monsoon death toll has climbed to 257 amid landslides, flash floods, and road blockages.
Mumbai has already recorded 64 per cent of its month-to-month quota of rain within the first five days of August.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that extremely heavy rain will occur at isolated places in Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts of Maharashtra on August 4 and August 5.
Services on sections of suburban sector were halted or crawling on the Western Railway, Central Railway at various locations, while the Harbour Line was paralysed from Kurla to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.
Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted high tide to hit at 14:23 pm, with a height of 3.83 meters and a low tide is expected around 20:28 pm, with a hight of 0.98 meters.
The operations at the country's second busiest airport had witnessed heavy disruptions on Wednesday as rains crippled the city.
The IMD said that the monthly average rainfall for the month of September for Mumbai has already been crossed in four days.
Hours of incessant rainfall in Mumbai and adjoining districts led to water-logging in several parts of the city on Wednesday morning.
