The CPI-M leader Sujan Chakraborty asked why is Roy still holding the PAC chairman’s post when his own party’s lawmakers are claiming that he lacks mental balance. “Is he kept in the position to help in financial corruption through certain exchanges?” he questioned.
The bench noted that there are so many cases where there is delay by the Speaker, and the court is often told to stay away and allow the Speaker to decide.
The bench said a petition filed for Roy's disqualification is pending before the Speaker for more than three months, the maximum period fixed in a judgement of the Supreme Court, for decision thereof.
"We want Roy to get disqualified as soon as possible. We will also mention in the petition to fix the deadline for fast redressal of the issue,” Adhikari said.
According to reliable sources, the TMC, keeping an eye on the next Parliamentary elections, has planned to ready its organisation so that it can regain the lost Lok Sabha seats by inducting MLAs and MPs from the BJP fold.
Reporters reminded Mr Roy that when he joined the BJP, he criticised both Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, who is at present party’s all India general secretary and asked him what he has to say about that.
However, the Trinamul party insiders said that though the party had a working committee meeting on 5 June, it was too early for the party to take back the defectors or who changed sides before the 2021 poll.
The two-minute conversation between Modi and Roy has triggered political speculation because it came after TMC leader and MP Abhiskek Banerjee made a surprise visit to the hospital on Wednesday evening.
Addressing a press conference at his residence in New Delhi, he said, "What our leaders talked about was submitted to the Election Commission in writing. But the question is who did it (tapping)? Who gave permission for the tapping?"
