Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former union Minister Mukul Roy, remembering him as a committed political leader with strong organisational abilities and deep grassroots connect.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister extended his condolences to Roy’s family and well-wishers.

The Supreme Court on Friday stayed a recent judgment of the Calcutta High Court which had disqualified the lawmaker Mukul Roy from the membership of the West Bengal State Legislative Assembly on the ground that he had defected from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to the ruling All India Trinamul Congress (TMC) in 2021.
The West Bengal Assembly secretariat has begun exploring legal options to challenge last week’s Calcutta High Court Division Bench ruling that struck down the Assembly membership of Mukul Roy.
The bench said a petition filed for Roy's disqualification is pending before the Speaker for more than three months, the maximum period fixed in a judgement of the Supreme Court, for decision thereof.
"We want Roy to get disqualified as soon as possible. We will also mention in the petition to fix the deadline for fast redressal of the issue,” Adhikari said.
He alleged that the move by Trinamool Congress to appoint Roy as the chairman is an effort to cover up its malpractices.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh, who went Delhi to meet party chief JP Nadda, today after being summoned to discuss “urgent party matter”, said that party will no more tolerate anti-party statements on social media.
