The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) faced a major setback as its candidates withdrew their candidature on Thursday, ensuring that the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti alliance wins the Legislative Council (Vidhan Parishad) election virtually unopposed.
As reported earlier, elections to 37 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states are scheduled for March 16, while the tenure of seven MPs from Maharashtra, including that of NCP founder Sharad Pawar, will come to an end shortly.
The development comes after the Election Commission of India announced elections for 37 vacant Rajya Sabha seats in 10 states.
Speaking to media persons at a press conference here on Saturday, Raut said, “I believe Sharad Pawar will come to the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) along with Ajit Pawar”.
The MNS spokesperson also alleged that many candidates are not even reachable on their mobile phones and have "gone missing".
The development came after Sharad Pawar-led NCP leader Jayant Patil met Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray at his 'Matoshree' residence in Bandra East on Friday and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP's talks with the Ajit Pawar-led NCP to enter into an alliance broke down in Pune.

In the Opposition’s Maha Vikas Aghadi, the Congress was leading in 32 local bodies, followed by NCP–SCP with nine and Shiv Sena (UBT) with eight.
According to the Election Commission of India data, the BJP is leading in 39 seats, while the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena is ahead in 22. The Ajit Pawar-led NCP, also a partner in the Mahayuti, is leading in 19 seats.
