The police have caught a youth, posing as a 'Special Branch Officer' of Lalbazar, the Kolkata Police headquarters, on charges of extorting money from villagers threatening to arrest them, police officials said on Saturday.
The Kolkata police commissioner Manoj Verma has ordered an inquiry to probe the incident of vandalism at the district inspector (DI) of schools office premises at Kasba in the southern part of the city on Wednesday.

Sources close to the senior officers at Lalbazar said that such an interaction would now be undertaken regularly to be alive to their concerns.
A closed down hospital facility at EM Bypass is among the buildings to be used as quarantine centres.
"The move to undertake audit of private offices operating with 25 per cent of workforce had been necessitated to ensure adherence to the rules of running such offices, in conjunction with maintenance of social distancing rules, any violation of which could invite strong action," said an officer.
Officers at Lalbazar said that the seven were arrested following a specific tip-off. A car, which the officers said was spotted moving in a suspicious manner, was chased down by personnel of the watch section, who managed to intercept the car near Sunny Park at Ballygunge.
The maps show the locations of all the major Pujas in respective areas with the directions for vehicular and pedestrian movement.
A large police contingent rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.
