The Tallah Bridge in North Kolkata had been closed to traffic for its health overhaul since February 2020 and its dismantling and revamp had been undertaken in consultation with the Railways following major cracks and infirmity discovered on the bridge.
A KMDA and Kolkata police traffic department in a communique said that since the Karunamoyee bridge would undergo certain tests beginning Monday, by the KMDA authorities, the bridge would be closed to traffic from 11 May to 14 May.
The KMC is slated to go for elections this year.
Once the footwear project kicks off, Kolkata will be at par with Agra in terms of upper and sole manufacturing.

Around 30,000 devotees have been observing Chhath rituals in Rabindra Sarovar for the last few years.
The chief minister Mamata Banerjee, had given clear instructions that KMC must repair the roads and then settle the bill with the concerned agencies responsible for the maintenance of those roads.
In view of this, a largescale traffic diversion has been planned. The movement of trams along CIT Road up to Ultadanga Station will be suspended from 10 p.m on 22 August till completion of the work on 25 August.
It is a measure of the fragile patchwork that six years later, several piers have developed cracks and including the one that was repaired. In the net, the city’s link to the airport and beyond via VIP Road has been partially snapped.
