The sources said that the ISA will continue to prioritise cooperation with Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the development and deployment of solar energy solutions.
The exit is part of the US plan to pull out of global forums, conventions, and treaties that the Trump administration calls “wasteful, ineffective, harmful” and “contrary to its interests”.
“India has already reached 50% non-fossil energy capacity, five years ahead of its NDC target,” he added.
Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi on Wednesday said India's efforts through the International Solar Alliance (ISA) focus on expanding solar infrastructure, creating green jobs, supporting livelihoods, and mitigating climate impacts.
During the meetings, discussions included topics ranging from renewable energy, digital transformation, and reformed multilateralism to International Solar Alliance (ISA).
These Meetings extend the ISA Secretariat the opportunity to enhance cooperation with ISA Member Countries, as well as provide Member Countries with the ability to improve collaboration among themselves and mutually identify avenues of cooperation and partnership.
The launch of the ISA was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former French President Francois Hollande in November 2015
The general assembly, held virtually between 18-21 October, was presided over by Union Power and New and Renewable Energy Minister and President of the ISA Assembly R.K. Singh.
Tripathy is its first director general and has prepared a detailed roadmap to collectively address key common challenges and scale up solar energy applications in line with their needs. His main target is to mobilise investments of more than $1000 billion by 2030 with a mission “every home no matter how far away will have a light at home”.
The Kingdom is the 73rd country to join the India-led renewable energy organisation.
