As the death of an 18-month-old child of a soldier deployed at the Indo-China border, due to medical negligence, triggered widespread condemnation, Uttarakhand chief minister on Thursday ordered a probe into the matter and assured action against guilty officials.
Presently, visitors are required to obtain special permission from the office of Joshimath SDM to visit tourist places along China borders in district Chamoli.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said better mobile connectivity to residents of these remote villages will be ensured soon and the government is committed to ensure better all-round connectivity to these areas.
Sources said the change in Chinese stance happened the moment India increased its surveillance mechanism along the Line of Actual Control.
The delivery of the vehicle comes at a time when China and India failed to reach an agreement during the 13th round of corps commander-level talks over issues related to the western section of the China-India border
The core objective of BADP is to develop border villages situated along Indo-Pak and Indo-China borders with special focus on important sectors like education, health, agriculture, drinking water, handicraft, handloom, power, rural development, roads, and bridges, irrigation canals among others.
The development comes after around 250 Indian and Chinese army personnel clashed in Pangong Tso lake area in Eastern Ladakh on May 5. Four days later, there was a similar face-off near Naku La Pass in North Sikkim.
A total of 6,922 people, stuck outside the state, have registered themselves with the government's portal to return to their homes. No COVID-19 case has been reported in Sikkim so far.
The Ministry of External Affairs organises the yatra from June-September each year through two different routes, Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand) and Nathu La Pass (Sikkim).
