The Income Tax department on Friday raided multiple premises including the residence of Trinamul Congress MLA Debasish Kumar as well as the homes and offices of two other leaders of the party, triggering political tension in the Assembly elections.
The Chief Minister was reacting to a Delhi court discharging Kejriwal and Sisodia in the alleged liquor policy scam and pulling up the CBI for implicating the two leaders without any material evidence.
The minister’s remarks are significant as it is a rare instance of a ruling party leader publicly criticising action by a central agency against an Opposition politician.
The attachment has been carried out under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, through a Provisional Attachment Order.
The yield of cut and polished stones is suppressed and part of it is sold in cash, generating unaccounted income which is not recorded in the books of accounts.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the companies were involved in import of electronic goods, digital marketing, solid waste management, and were evading taxes including income tax, custom duty, GST by adopting various modus operandi.
The evidence revealed that the payments for such under-invoiced goods to the foreign consigners have been made through hawala channels.
Over 13.44 crore unique taxpayers have logged in till 13th October, 2021.
"Income Tax department conducted raids at houses and companies of my three sisters. I don't know the reason behind it but these are 'politically motivated' raids. They are doing a low-level of politics. I feel bad," he stated.
