In its official press note, the weather department said the expected rain activity is being triggered by a lower atmospheric circulation prevailing over southern India.
Delhi's AQI, which stood at 343 at 4 pm on January 15, showed a rising trend and was recorded at 354 at 4 pm today, falling in the 'very poor' category (AQI range: 301-400).
On Wednesday, Delhi recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 327, improving slightly in the past few days while remaining in the ‘very poor’ category.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms across the city over the next two hours.
Residents of the national capital experienced a warm start to the day on Saturday, as the mercury climbed to 39.5°C, with the minimum temperature settling at 25.8°C.

The IMD has predicted a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain/thundershowers. The max and min temps. are likely to be around 33 and 26 degrees Celsius.
Authorities said the cyclone crossed the coast between Nagapattinam and Vedaranyam districts between 12.30 a.m. and 2.30 a.m. with wind speeds of about 110-120 kmph.
