Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat on Wednesday asserted that the Congress in Uttarakhand is at a crucial stage of ushering in political change, expressing confidence that the state could take the lead in mounting a challenge against the BJP.
In an attempt to garner support from the Brahmin community ahead of upcoming political battles, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and Congress leader Harish Rawat has called for unity between Sanatan, Congress, and the Brahmin community, asserting that all three share a common ethos.
Congress leader and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat, on Wednesday, said that there is no harm in teaching the Bhagavad Gita in schools, but suggested this should not be a one-sided decision, and other texts should also be included.
Former chief minister of Uttarakhand and Congress veteran Harish Rawat, for the first time, categorically stated that hill town Gairsain will be the permanent capital of the state if his party returns to power in 2027.
The BJP has accused Rawat of promising the establishment of a Muslim University and declaring Fridays as official holidays for Muslim government employees during his tenure.
Sources said much to their disappointment, Rawat ruled out removing the CM and even went further by making it clear the next election will be fought under the leadership of Amarinder Singh.
"We have given the party leadership to Sidhu but not the Congress to him," Rawat was categorically clear in saying about any move to change the Chief Minister ahead of the assembly polls slated in early 2022.
Sources say Amarinder Singh in his letter had said, that he will not contest under Navjot Singh Sidhu if he is elevated to the top organizational post of the state.
Sources said the Congress was mulling an idea of appointing a Dalit and an upper caste Hindu as the working presidents. But, Amarinder Singh's unhappiness has compelled the party to think otherwise.
"The party is working on a formula to appoint two working presidents and elections will be fought under the leadership of the Chief Minister," said Rawat.
