Punjab records 14.59% growth in GST collections in May

Reaffirming Punjab’s strong fiscal performance, Finance, Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema announced on Monday that the state recorded a robust 14.59 per cent growth in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections during May 2026.

Three-pronged initiative

Making systemic changes and sharpening the tools that would facilitate sustainable transformation require the political leadership to possess an acute understanding of the governance process and a statesmanlike long-term vision. The government has to show resolve with compassion, the Opposition has to be critical yet constructive, and the public adequately informed and rational.

Whither vision, innovation?

There was no innovative, expansionary vision on display as the hapless finance minister, grappling with revenue, debt, expenditure going out of kilter and jobs disappearing across the board, used eloquent and unwarranted optimism instead, projecting a 10 per cent growth.
