President of Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF), central committee, Mann Ghising, today stated that the Gorkha community and the Darjeeling Hills are facing a severe political crisis.
Activists from the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) have been hoisting black flags across Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and surrounding areas since 5 August to protest the delay in implementing a Permanent Political Solution for the region.
Mr Ghisingh stated that the Gorkhas have been waiting for a long time and are currently dissatisfied with the situation.
When the Hill-based Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF), a close ally of the NDA, is politically working with the BJP, the Congress may beg votes from the Hill people highlighting the dream of founder GNLF president the Late Subash Ghisingh.
GNLF is in a tight spot after one party activist Mahendra Chhetri met the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi yesterday as a general secretary of the party on the issue of the sixth schedule status for Darjeeling Hills.
Paying homage to Ghisingh, who was born in Mirik in 1936, and died on 29 January 2015, Mr Bista today wrote in his Facebook post: "The Gorkhas, no matter where we are from, no matter who we are, remain indebted to Subash Ghisingh who brought about a political consciousness and sense of identity in all of us."
As a result, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh recently alleged in Siliguri that the Trinamul Congress had been confusing the people.
Asked to comment on a statement made by a GNLF leader on the possibility of holding such tripartite meeting within February, Mr Bista said: “The Union Home minister has sent a letter to the state for a tripartite meeting. I think the (GNLF) leader commented on the basis of that letter.”
