The writers, often considered the backbone of Hollywood, say they face an existential threat. The Writers Guild of America, which has nearly 12,000 members, said they had talked to production companies for the past six weeks but had made no headway.
In '1923,' a new generation of the Dutton family is introduced, and the early 20th century is explored, with the mountain west and the Duttons that live there being affected by pandemics, a record-breaking drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression.
"Working within the GOT universe for the past few years has been an honor and a privilege, especially spending the last two with the amazing cast and crew of 'House of the Dragon,'" Miguel Sapochnik said.
“THE WINDS OF WINTER is going to be a big book. The way it is going, it could be bigger than A STORM OF [SWORDS] or A DANCE WITH DRAGONS, the longest books in the series to date. I do usually cut and trim once I finish, but I need to finish first.”
Co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, House of the Dragon is based on Fire & Blood and set 300 years before the events of Thrones, telling the story of House Targaryen.
The announcement comes after it was widely reported that the network pulled the plug on a Game of Throne sequel starring Naomi Watts.
