As the Bijoya Sammelani gatherings by the Trinamul Congress come to an end, starting after the Durga Pujas, party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee met with Media persons in Alipore over snacks and tea on Thursday.
The torrential rain, which had hit the city last night and continued till early today, has hit Durga Pujas organisers badly.
As Durga Pujas carefully work upon their themes, one of the popular Pujas South Kolkata, Samaj Sebi has gone back to their roots to make it their theme this year.
In a bid to streamline industrialisation and accelerate growth in the state, the state government today announced that it would organise a Business Industry Conclave just after the Durga Pujas.
Themes for Durga Pujas are being unveiled in the city as the Puja committees perform their Khunti Pujas.
With every passing year the number of Durga Pujas in the state is increasing and so is the demand for more power, said power minister Aroop Biswas today, while announcing the measures the government is taking ahead of the pujas.
The city of joy has always been at the forefront of creativity. The yearly calendars, from corporate houses to government undertakings and private bodies, have been a fertile field to showcase talent.
“Over 125 illumination light artists and more than 10 thousand karigars are directly involved in the business but the present situation is so grave that many artists and karigars have opted for other means of livelihood. The abrupt decline in the illuminative light business has caused alarm and insecurity among those involved in the business.”
Though Malda people had to impatiently wait for the rains to stop, and when the downpour actually stopped, the puja organisers who hurriedly completed the remaining work have not let down visitors, as every pandal promises something different and innovative this year.
Sources said there are around 40 such roads, which included under the wards 18, 27,35,38,40,41,42,43 and some link roads also while around six mastic roads too need repairs.
