Dilip Kumar, often called the “Tragedy King” for his powerful performances in intense, emotional roles, had a career spanning more than five decades. He appeared in around 60 films.
On their 59th wedding anniversary on Saturday, veteran actress Saira Banu took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, sharing intimate moments from her wedding night with late legendary actor Dilip Kumar.
Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar married in 1966, when she was 22 and he was 44. The couple shared a life filled with love and respect, though they did not have children.
What Saira admired most was how her husband understood that freedom was more than a privilege, it was a duty. She wrote, “A duty to give back to the soil that cradled us."
The idea of turning these homes into heritage sites dates back to 2014 when former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif officially declared them national heritage properties.
Kher says he watched Dilip Kumar closely, observing his expressions, his hands, his walk, completely in awe. That’s when director Subhash Ghai noticed the situation and pulled him aside.
Dilip Kumar, often hailed as the “Tragedy King” of Indian cinema, passed away on July 7, 2021, at the age of 98. His contribution to Indian films is immeasurable.
