The leaders of Bharat Jakat Majhi Pargana have expressed satisfaction over the way a new forest consisting of trees which have been translocated from the coal mine site at Deocha Pachami in Birbhum district has been created.
It may sound unbelievable but a forest has been set up consisting of trees that were trans-located in Deocha Pachami.
“Adivasis are in trouble in Deocha Pachami due to the coal project of the state government. They are losing their lands which are been taken away from them and putting their lives in peril. There is an apparent tribal uprising there where many are protesting against the government. We need to discuss how to gather more people and make them part of this protest towards saving the future of these tribals..."
It bears recall that at the Glasgow climate summit last November, all countries, including India, had agreed to the procedure of coal phase-down chiefly to curb global emissions and warming. Green activists wonder whether the detailed project report and the assessment report on the environmental impact have been prepared. They say work on the project has started without such crucial assessments.
“We will not do anything like what had happened in Singur (forcible land acquisition for car project). We will start the project with government-owned land. We are a pro-people government. We don't believe in doing things by force,"
The state government will sign an MoU with the Centre in a week for handover of the coal block.
Worlds 2nd largest mine reserves of 2.1 billion tonnes of coal, has employment capacity for 1 lakh.
