The Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate (ADPC) has unearthed a major digital crime racket and arrested eight members involved, including its kingpin, who is on the wanted list of several cyber crime police stations across the country.
In the latest instance of highly educated professionals falling prey to cyber scammers, the Vice Chancellor of Odisha’s Berhampur University was ensnared in ‘digital arrest’ and lost Rs 14 lakh to the cyber criminals.
The ADPC sources said that the cyber criminals have forged the signature of the official of Asansol Municipal Corporation and siphoned off the money.
