While the country is gearing up for the polls, communal tensions have flared in some districts of Nepal, raising concerns over law and order.
As operations continued, Pakistani authorities imposed a curfew across the town, directing shops to remain closed and instructing residents to stay indoors.
Chairing a high-level review meeting to take stock of the prevailing law and order situation in the Union Territory, the LG said, “Peace and development are the top priorities of the administration."
Authorities confirmed that residents will now be allowed to venture out from 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily to procure essential goods and services.
Curfew has been imposed in parts of Manipur ‘s Churachandpur district as tensions escalated between two tribal communities over hoisting of community flags.
The violence erupted again on Tuesday morning at the Jalori Gate over the unfurling of a flag. The police lathi-charged the miscreants, fired tear gas shells and dispersed the mob.
The agitated people were determined to get on to the streets despite introduction of the tough law.
Local media said dozens of people including police officers, who were injured during the protest, were sent to hospitals.
The government had earlier enforced night curfew restrictions from 10 pm to 5 am till February 28, 2022 in its revised guidelines for the month due to the rapid rise in Omicron-induced COVID-19 surge.
According to sources, it was also decided that bars and restaurants would function with their 50 percent seating capacity. The number of guests at marriage functions has been capped at 200.
