Amid the ongoing West Asia conflict, the government on Thursday said Coal India Limited (CIL) is taking adequate measures to ensure supply of coal to all consumers including the small, medium and other consumers.
The pithead coal stock at the mines of CIL was 106.78 MT on 1 April, 2025. This has grown to 121.39 MT on 9 March, 2026.
Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), organised the Final Day Celebration of the Annual Mines Safety Week – 2025 at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Asansol, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to building a safer and more responsible mining ecosystem.
The development comes after CIL had earlier conducted dialogues with the prospective coal consumers from abroad to categorise the enabling clauses and gauge their need for coal.
The MoU was signed by Mr Achyut Ghatak, Director (Technical), CIL, and Mr V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras.
The celebration was graced by Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, as the chief guest, along with Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary of the Ministry of Coal, as the guest of honour.
Coal production in Open Cast Coal Mines Projects (OCP) of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) in West Burdwan district has been completely stopped since yesterday due to incessant rainfall and huge waterlogging, said Niladri Roy, director (technical), ECL.
In FY25, as of September 12, the Ministry of Coal achieved an upswing in coal production, reaching a provisional figure of 411.62 million tonnes (MT).
The production of Coal India Limited (CIL) rose to 290.39 MT during the period of April to August 2024 marking a growth of 3.17% as compared to 281.46 MT during the corresponding period of last period, the Ministry of Coal said.
Debasish Nanda, Director (Business Development) CIL and Shri. R K Singhal, Director (Business Development) GAIL inked the JVA on behalf of CIL and GAIL respectively.
