The Maharashtra State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will register a case under appropriate legal provisions if it is established that the late Ajit Pawar was assassinated, CID Additional Director General of Police Sunil Ramanand said at a press conference here today.
A Bench comprising Justice M.M. Sundresh and Justice N Kotiswar Singh made the observation during the hearing of the CBI’s appeal against a Jharkhand High Court order that had suspended Yadav’s sentence and granted him bail in connection with fraudulent withdrawals from the Deoghar treasury.
After registering the 22 cases following directions to this effect from the Supreme Court, the investigation agency also carried out raids at 47 locations across the National Capital Region.
The CBI filed the chargesheet in October last year, against former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, their daughter Misa Bharti and 13 others in the land-for-jobs scam.
In its second supplementary charge sheet filed in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has alleged irregularities in the Group of Ministers (GoM) meetings, saying no records were maintained and that the Excise Commissioner was never invited.
Sources said a CBI team, including a Superintendent of Police, four deputy superintendents and seven inspectors are part of the team that carried out searches at the Bank's corporate headquarters.
CBI said this evening that the irregularities were allegedly committed by a private educational institution, its directors, their touts/associates & staff posted at the examination centre and other unknown persons.
"The CBI should have an autonomy as that of Comptroller and Auditor General of India, who is only accountable to Parliament", Madras High Court.
An ED source related to the probe said that the agency is carrying out searches in Delhi, Jaipur, and Ghaziabad on the premises of the companies involved in it.
According to CBI sources, the searches began early morning. However, no details of the premises where the searches were underway has been shared.
