The CBI has alleged that Khairnar played a crucial role in obtaining and circulating the leaked NEET-UG examination paper through contacts linked to the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The agency further submitted before the court that simultaneous investigations were underway in different parts of the country and custodial interrogation was necessary to trace the wider network and recover additional evidence.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday said the teacher, identified as Manisha Gurunath Mandhare, was allegedly part of a larger network that facilitated access to questions later found in the cancelled NEET-UG 2026 examination held on May 3.
The alleged misappropriation has reportedly caused a wrongful loss of Rs 2,929 crore to SBI out of a total exposure of Rs 19,694 crore, involving 17 public sector banks.
On a request by the Additional Solicitor General S V Raju, who appeared for the CBI for an expeditious hearing of the matter by the high court, the bench in its order said, “Petitioner (CBI) would be at liberty to request HC for expeditious disposal which shall be considered by it on its merits”
The Manipur government and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs had transferred the case to the CBI for further investigation.
Of the total of 14 municipalities that have come under the scanner of the central agency sleuths in this connection, authorities of six have informed the probe officials that crucial recruitment-related documents, including the OMR sheets, have gone missing.
The Calcutta High Court had allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Directorate of Enforcement (ED) to probe the multicrore recruitment scam.
Apart from these two incidents, no major untoward incident was reported from the district as re-polling continued.
