35,000 farmers await paddy procurement, BJD targets Odisha govt

Nearly 35,000 farmers in Odisha are still awaiting procurement of around 1.5 lakh metric tonnes of rabi paddy, the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) alleged on Tuesday, accusing the BJP government of failing to honour its election promises to farmers and demanding that the procurement period be extended by at least 15 days.

BJD floats idea of bloc in parliament

“Let us see how it works out in parliament, we are keen to form a bloc of over 100 MPs with as many parties including TRS, DMK and others to present various issues. Individually, the parties concerned do not have the numbers to effectively do so, hence the idea to form a bloc,” said BJD parliamentary party leader Pinaki Mishra.
