35,000 farmers await paddy procurement, BJD targets Odisha govt

Nearly 35,000 farmers in Odisha are still awaiting procurement of around 1.5 lakh metric tonnes of rabi paddy, the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) alleged on Tuesday, accusing the BJP government of failing to honour its election promises to farmers and demanding that the procurement period be extended by at least 15 days.

Naveen Patnaik to be sworn-in as Odisha CM for fifth time on May 29

Naveen Patnaik would be sworn-in as the state’s Chief Minister for a fifth consecutive term on May 29 in a simple ceremony at the Raj Bhavan, the BJD said on Saturday, adding that it would be an austere occasion in view of the Cyclone Fani that caused much death and destruction in the state.

Verdict in Odisha

Mr Patnaik was riveted to social security and the indices of welfare. Bereft of personal attacks, his campaign style has paid off and famously so. More power to his elbow.
