Air India has reduced frequencies on several international routes for three months as rising fuel costs and geopolitical tensions increase pressure on airline operations globally.
Tata Group-owned Air India is likely to reduce its international flight operations after posting a loss of nearly Rs 20,000 crore in FY26, amidst rising aviation fuel costs, according to senior officials.
The revision in fuel surcharges is expected to increase airfares; however, Air India said it will continue to absorb a significant portion of the increased cost.
The Airbus A320 was coming from Bagdogra and reportedly had 148 people, including six crew members on board.
An Air India Express flight to Sharjah that took off from Tamil Nadu's Tirchy International Airport at 5.40 p.m. landed back safely after developing a technical snag, an official said on Friday.
National carrier Air India on Wednesday said that flights operated by Vistara will start using the flight code 'AI2' after the merger of the two airlines next month.
Ahead of the merger, Air India said Vistara experience will remain, and the the flights operated with Vistara aircraft will have numbers starting with the prefix 'AI2'. Vistara's planes, crew and service will continue to operate as before.
In addition to this, penalties of Rs 6 lakh and Rs 3 lakh were imposed on the director of operations and the director of training at Air India, respectively.
The flight has been kept in the isolation bay. Passengers are to be evacuated soon, said Thiruvananthapuram Airport officials.
