For a noble cause

The Inner Wheel Club of South Calcutta recently organised an exhibition- cum-sale titled “Ananda Haat” for raising funds to run their school for underprivileged students.

It was a grand festival drawing attention of hundreds of enthusiasts at The Banquet, Rash Behari Avenue, Kolkata. A variety of stalls displaying saris, salwar suits, jewellery, home decors, and household items did brisk business, sales amounting to a substantial figure.  Reputed  dancer-actor Jaya Sil Ghosh inaugurated the show by lighting the lamp as the guest of honour while the district chairperson Indrani Chatterjee, graced the occasion as chief guest.

The organisation is active throughout the year conducting eye camps, talent contests for the schools of spastic children, health check-ups for children, mother-and-child programmes, adult literacy and supporting women from old age homes.  The exhibition had sponsored a stall titled “Food cart” for the Red Light workers of Bowbazar, Kolkata. To ensure maximum attendance at the exhibition, a lottery was arranged with 20 attractive prizes which were sponsored by the club members. Also, there were gifts for each one who bought the tickets.  A quiz contest, with 25 prizes, was organised specially for homemakers.
