Kosovare Asllani scored for Sweden after a weather delay and went on to win their opening game of the FIFA Women’s World Cup against Chile 2-0 at Roazhon Park on Tuesday.

Thunder and heavy rains had forced officials to stop the match in the 72nd minute of the game. The match could only be resumed only after about 40 minutes.

The match, which was heading towards a goalless draw till then, lit up after play resumed post threat of thunder and rain. Asllani’s goal, which came in the 83rd minute of the match, marked Sweden’s 60th goal in World Cup Football.

Madelen Janogy, who had just come in off the bench, added another goal in the stoppage time to finish things off in style for Sweden.

While Sweden are ranked 9 in World Football, Chile stand at the 39th place.

Earlier in the match, Chile’s Maria Urrutia was injured and had to be taken off the ground on a stretcher. Rains moved in post her injury.

In FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019, Sweden take on Thailand on 16 June, Sunday, while Chile lock horns with defending Champions United States on the same day.
